In this floral series, Jann took a unique approach to the cyanotype process. By diluting the chemical with water, she was able to acheive a lighter shade of blue during the exposure process. Working from lightest to darkest, Jann painted on the solution in layers, similar to the way you may paint water color. Once dry, she then placed florals and leaves on the image, and exposed to the sun. The result is a unique painterly cyanotype, with shades of blue not found in traditional cyanotypes.
To highlight and bring out the flowers, she used gold ink, and framed in light gold to bring out the blue and gold colors.
