I spent a year of my childhood living in Marmaris, Turkey. I have the fondest memories of my time there; what stands out the most after all of these years away, was the warmth of the people. Despite language and cultural divides we were embraced as neighbors. One such neighbor, Mehmed, would pick me up daily and walk with me to get fresh simit (bread) and to this day when I smell rosemary tea I am beamed back to those days.
I was thrilled when an opportunity to revisit Turkey arose! I spent the majority of my time in Cappadocia and Istanbul. I have always wanted to capture the hot air balloons over the Groeme and Rose valleys and the Anatolian horses. It was everything I envisioned and more, and just as I remembered from my youth, it was the people that made the greatest impact on me.
